Long-time-people…
These were the people who bore witness. They showed up when the babies were born when we were sick, and when tragedy struck. They brought the casseroles.

The real deal…
These are the real ones, showing me how to live. These sermons are preached with an everyday doxology. They are aging, and loving, and giving, and growing, and teaching me as they go.

In polite company…
She called and asked questions about what I believed and why. She listened to understand, not to argue. When we were finished talking, neither of us changed our views but we did know each other better. I wish we could do more of that.

Lessons learned…
simply shared what they had. We both stood speechless in the face of such love and generosity. Tears rolled down our cheeks as we accepted this gift. We stood humbled by His provision and His great love, and we received it as from His hand.

Every damn day…
I am so glad I did. I feared that I would run out of things to say, or that no one would read. I didn’t want to make the commitment to every damn day, because I didn’t want to fail.

Just folks…
As I lay in bed last night, I thought about people in tent cities, heroin needles, and winter in New England. I think this is why we don’t engage, don’t learn more, don’t ask questions.

When it's hard…
Sometimes living in community can be very hard. This is the other side of the same coin. The very people who allow us in our lives to love and support them, also allow us close enough to hurt them.

On sharing a meal…
Shared meals, shared laughs, shared tears, and shared lives are the things that really impact us over time. People matter, and our connections to others need to be cultivated and nurtured in order for them to grow.

On path picking…
I am looking for ways to love and live well, right were I am. I am spending more time praying about how I live than where we go from here.
